As he accompanied Gov. Rick Perry last week on a short walk from the Governor’s Mansion to a downtown Austin courthouse, there was little in <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/tony-buzbee/">Tony Buzbee’s </a>demeanor suggesting that his client was about to be booked on felony charges returned by a grand jury four days earlier.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
A bright pink pocket square in his sports coat, the Houston lawyer appeared relaxed and jovial, rarely turning his attention from chatting with the governor, who projected equally good spirits. The only hint at the occasion — or the personality behind <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">Buzbee’s</a> reputation as a formidable courtroom adversary — came from the periodic scowl he directed toward a waiting throng of journalists and photographers.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Just a day before, Buzbee, 46, this time in a suit and tie, had cut a different figure. Speaking at a news conference he called to introduce the high-octane legal team he had assembled, Buzbee delivered what amounted to an opening argument.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“This is nothing more than banana republic politics,” he told reporters of an indictment against Perry, which he called a “nasty attack” on democratic government.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Buzbee’s presentation included clips of an intoxicated and hostile Rosemary Lehmberg, the Travis County district attorney, at the Travis County Jail. Her office houses the public integrity unit, whose funds Perry threatened to veto if she didn’t resign after pleading guilty to drunken driving. The charges against Perry stem from that June 2013 veto, which removed state money for the unit tasked with investigating state government corruption.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“Let’s not forget beyond this video some of the things that occurred during that stop and arrest that night,” Buzbee said after he showed the video reporters. “There were times in which she was kicking, beating on the window and screaming. Anybody who sees that tape would have lost confidence in the Travis County district attorney.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
The hard-charging news conference — and the relaxed stroll to the courthouse with his client — are each emblematic of the Houston lawyer leading Perry's legal defense team, who is known both for his tenacity and flair for the symbolic gesture.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Buzbee, who does not have a background in criminal law, has made his fortune being the kind of trial lawyer Perry has spent much of his time in office villainizing — going after oil companies, automobile manufacturers and governmental entities on personal injury and property damage claims.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
His victories include collecting $37 million in settlements from the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, the state-run, industry-financed risk pool for property owners in parts of Texas where storms are common. Perry called a special session to overhaul the rulesgoverning storm-related lawsuits in 2011, saying reforms were needed to prevent trial lawyers from treating the fund like a “personal ATM.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In an interview, Buzbee rejected any suggestion that the politics of tort reform were relevant to the choice to take his latest case — or that he was an unconventional pick to lead the governor's defense. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box;">“I don’t think it’s unusual in cases like this for defendants to choose the lawyer that he or she trusts the most and thinks will do the best job,” he said.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
A statement on Buzbee from Travis Considine, a Perry spokesman, echoed that sentiment.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<span style="box-sizing: border-box;">"Governor Perry chose Tony Buzbee to lead his legal team because he has great confidence and trust in his abilities," he said.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
The friendship between the two men began during Perry’s 2012 presidential campaign. A mutual friend reached out to the lawyer, who like Perry is a Texas A&M University graduate, to see whether he would help coach the governor after his stumbling performances in early debates.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“Those are high-pressure situations, and we spent a lot of time together,” said Buzbee, whom Perry appointed to the A&M Board of Regents in 2013.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Buzbee also became a financial supporter of the governor during that time. In addition to hosting fundraisers and lending a jet for travel, he gave $250,000 to a political action committee set up to support the presidential bid and another $50,000 to Perry’s state campaign fund.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Until then, Buzbee primarily contributed to Democratic causes. That includes $15,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and over $200,000 to the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, which supports mostly Democratic candidates. A former chairman of the Galveston County Democratic Party, Buzbee ran for the Texas House as a Democrat in 2002. He said now he no longer considers himself a partisan.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“I think people’s political views change as they get older,” he said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Buzbee’s appeal to Perry as a lead attorney may go beyond the personal connection between the two men.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Successful plaintiff lawyers are typically highly skilled at molding public perception of their cases, said Beaumont-based attorney Brent Coon, whose personal injury work has often overlapped with Buzbee’s. Coon said they also have another quality that could benefit Perry: an appetite for keeping up an aggressive offense throughout protracted legal fights.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“They are good with sound bites. They are good with quotes, they are good with shaping the case in a way that fits them,” he said. “Some people carry swords, some people carry shields. Plaintiff lawyers carry swords. Because you have to be aggressive, you have to be in attack mode, you have to be proactive because you don’t win cases playing defense.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In a career spanning a decade and a half, Buzbee has accumulated a resume notable not just for sizable wins but a sheer variety of cases.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“I’m not the typical car wreck lawyer that people like to write about,” he said. “If somebody has been aggrieved, and I think their case is right, I’ll represent them, and I’ll probably win.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
He has represented displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina who stayed in formaldehyde-laced FEMA trailers; Vietnamese welders lured to the U.S. through a human trafficking scheme; a father whose underage daughter drowned in a car accident after her first night of work at a Galveston-area strip club; former NFL players suing the league after suffering the effects of concussions; and two separate women whose jilted fiances demanded the return of engagement rings.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Buzbee filed lawsuits in 2012 against the now-deceased Amarillo millionaire Stanley Marsh III, the celebrated arts patron behind the Cadillac Ranch, on behalf of 10 teenage boys who said he sexually abused them in exchange for cash, drugs and alcohol. He has also sued a DNA testing firm that mailed a woman the leg of her dead father, Ford Motor Co. for therollover death of a 13-year-old boy, and an Emirati sheik accused of torturing a Houston businessman at his royal ranch after he threatened to expose his sadistic treatment of other prisoners.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In 2011, he won a settlement from British Petroleum exceeding $150 million for a group of 19 workers injured in the Deepwater Horizon explosion. That followed a $100 million verdict a jury returned in 2009 for workers sickened by toxic fumes at BP’s Texas City refinery.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
It is work that has not escaped the notice of the state’s influential tort reform lobby.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“A truth-challenged, opportunistic personal injury trial lawyer,” is how Texans For Lawsuit Reform, a business group that operates one of the state’s most powerful political action committees, referred to Buzbee in a February news release.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Sherry Sylvester, a spokeswoman for the group, emphasized its support of Perry, calling his indictment a “crass political attack.” But she added that TLR “stands by our previous statements regarding Tony Buzbee.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
With his latest case, Buzbee has also received criticism from other trial lawyers, including Coon, who said he would have declined the job.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“It would be very difficult to help the governor on this particular issue because he has been a very strong advocate for tort reform, which I find is just wrong, just grievously wrong,” he said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Buzbee said he was aware his decision to represent Perry had attracted disapproval from other trial lawyers. But he shrugged off his detractors.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
“Any lawyer who has taken an oath in the state of Texas, who would not want to be involved in the case and on the side of the governor, probably doesn’t understand their oath,” he said. “We can argue about tort reform, I guess. But it hasn’t impacted my practice.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.35; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<i style="box-sizing: border-box;">Disclosure: Tony Buzbee was a major donor to The Texas Tribune in 2012. The parents of a recently deceased man have filed suit against the owners of the boat that caught fire with their son aboard, <a href="http://setexasrecord.com/news/297857-parents-seek-2-5m-for-sons-death-in-fire-on-shrimp-boat">causing his death.</a></div>

Kha Dang and Ngo Thi Dang, individually and on behalf of the estate of Teo Cung Dung, filed suit July 18 in the Jefferson County District Court against TL&S Corp. and Hieu Trung Tran.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs’ son, Teo Cung Dung, was participating in a month-long shrimping trip on board the Lucky Diamond. He and his three fellow crew members were in the Gulf of Mexico on May 10, 2012, when the boat’s master observed heavy smoke and fire coming from a deck area near crew quarters, according to the complaint.</div>

The master made attempts to extinguish the fire, but was not successful and ultimately abandoned the ship, the suit states. He boarded another boat and cut the mooring lines to the Lucky Diamond, the complaint says.</div>

Due to their son’s death, the Dangs lost his maintenance, care, support, services, companionship and society, the complaint says.</div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
They blame defendant TL&S Corp., which owned the boat, and Hieu Trung Tran for contributing to their son’s death, saying they negligently failed to ensure necessary inspections occurred, failed to ensure equipment was in a safe operating condition, failed to ensure the vessel was safe for travel and failed to institute proper safety measures, among other negligent actions.</div>

<span style="line-height: 1.6em;">Several years into his career, Tony
was speaking with a client prior to a scheduled trial in a hotly
contested case. In the conversation, Tony was attempting to ascertain
from the client what he wanted out of his lawsuit, in other words, what
would make him happy. When a client is in a lawsuit, it is important
that the client be realistic about the potential outcomes; the law can
only do so much, and many times what a client truly wants, the law
cannot provide. As a professional, it is the lawyer’s job to manage
expectations and to guide the client through the difficult process.
During that conversation, <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/tony-buzbee/">Tony</a> posed the question: “What do you hope to
gain from this case? What is it that would make you happy?” The client’s
answer that day became the motto for everything that <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">The Buzbee Law Firm</a> has done, and will continue to do. The client’s response? Just Win.
Does<a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/just-win/"> “Just Win” </a>mean winning at any cost? No, it means applying
God-given talent, with a large amount of effort, to obtain the best
result available by law. Since its inception, The Buzbee Law Firm has
successfully represented thousands of clients.</span></div>

Notable Cases</h1>

We believe in winning. We believe in our
clients. We believe in and respect our justice system. We believe in
juries. We are proud of the wide range of cases in which we have been
involved. The <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/clients/">Buzbee Law Firm</a> is routinely involved in high stakes
litigation. We like contingency fee arrangements, because such an
arrangement incentivizes us by allowing our firm to participate in the
success we obtain. In those rare cases when we work at an hourly rate,
we charge more than the run-of-the-mill firm. We believe we are worth it
and our experience demonstrates that our clients believe it, too.
<span style="line-height: 1.6em;">The Buzbee Law Firm is routinely
called upon to serve in leadership positions in high profile litigation.
We relish these opportunities, because we believe that our clients
benefit from it. We are currently involved in litigation involving
various drugs, the NFL Concussion Litigation, the BP Benzene Litigation
(Liaison Counsel), the Deepwater Horizon Explosion Litigation, the Port
Arthur Oil Spill Litigation, the FEMA Toxic Tort Trailer Litigation
(Steering Committee), the Reno Air Crash Litigation, and others. We
welcome opportunities to partner with ethical lawyers with good cases
who need our expertise, resources, and capital to bring high dollar
litigation to fruition. </span>

Oil Field Accidents</h3>
<br />
Due to the fast pace of the oil and gas well
drilling activity in the United States, and particularly in Texas, the
numbers of <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/oil-field-accidents/">oilfield accidents</a> and oil field-related injuries and deaths
happen at an alarming rate. Many of these oilfield injuries are
catastrophic due to the nature of the dangerous work involved.<br />
<br />
Oilfield workers are often forced to work long periods of time
without adequate rest, forced to take chances in the spirit of being a
team player, forced to work with some workers that are under the
influence of drugs or alcohol or forced to work beside oilfield workers
that often take short cuts and ignore established safety standards in
order to keep the drilling rig operating at a fast, high profit rate.<br />

<a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">The Buzbee Law Firm</a> is proud to represent working people and we have
represented several workers injured during onshore and offshore drilling
operations.<br />

Class Action Lawsuits</h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="inner-paratic-part">
A class action is a case brought against an entity
whose actions have damaged a group of people in a similar way. A class
proponent who has been injured may bring a class action on behalf of
everyone who was harmed, with class members joining later on. <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/class-action-lawsuits/">Class action lawsuits</a> help to achieve justice not just for the individuals who
bring such claims, but also for those who have suffered similar losses
caused by a defendant’s wrongdoing. Class actions are an important and
valuable part of the legal system, providing for the fair and efficient
resolution of legitimate claims of numerous parties by allowing the
claims to be brought together into a single case against the defendant
that allegedly caused the harm. <strong>For potential new cases, contact us via email at tbuzbee@txattorneys.com or call the office toll-free at 1-800-992-5393.</strong><br />

<a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">The Buzbee Law Firm </a>successfully had a class action certified against
a major offshore services company, forcing it to immediately remove all
asbestos from its vessels, and to obtain outside certification and
verification that its vessels are safe for its workers. In a first of
its kind case, the Buzbee Law Firm brought a class action suit against
virtually every offshore drilling company operating in the Gulf of
Mexico, alleging that the drilling industry had violated antitrust
provisions in setting wages for their workers. After the case was
heavily litigated, including the depositions of several high ranking
executives with the drilling companies, the case was settled. The trial
court approved the settlement and a fund was established to distribute
settlement funds to workers covered under the settlement. The Buzbee
Law Firm represented a group of eleven independent payphone providers in
an action in Hidalgo County against Southwestern Bell Telephone for
violations of the Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act for
monopolization, attempted monopolization, and restraint of trade. The
case settled to the clients’ satisfaction after Southwestern Bell’s
motion to transfer venue was denied and that decision was affirmed by
the appellate court. The Firm has been extensively involved in multiple
class action settlements involving the FEMA Toxic Trailer litigation.<br />

When an accident occurs due to negligence, an
injured person may file suit against the negligent party to recover all
of their damages. Damages usually include medical expenses, property
damage, pain and suffering, loss of income and earning potential and,
possibly, punitive damages. Proving a physical, emotional, or
cognitive injury can be a difficult process. The experienced and
knowledgeable attorneys at <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">the Buzbee Law Firm</a> are qualified to handle
difficult personal injury and accident cases. We are committed to
protecting our clients’ rights and have shown our abilities in the most

<h2>
Personal Injury Representation Matters</h2>
The <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">Buzbee Law Firm</a> has represented clients in suits against Ford
Motor Company related to the Ford Explorer, taking one case to a
significant verdict against Ford. Ford ultimately settled with the
firm’s clients to their satisfaction.<br />
The firm represented a Texas City family to pursue claims against the
Texas City Independent School District related to alleged sexual
assault of a special-needs child. Among other things, the settlement
resulted in the school changing its policies pertaining to the
investigation, prevention, and detection of sexual abuse in the school.<br />
The firm was retained by a Friendswood, Texas family that owned and
operated a dry cleaning business. Their dry cleaning machine spewed hot
cleaning fluid, burning one of the owners over 60% of his body. The suit
resulted in a financial settlement for the family and, as part of the
settlement, the manufacturer performed a mandatory retrofit on all of
its machines in an effort to prevent events like this in the future.<br />
The firm recently handled a case on behalf of the estate of an
elderly Texas City woman against a large energy utility, related to the
death of the woman at her home. The case settled during trial for a
confidential amount.<br />
The firm is currently handling a case on behalf of a woman who was
badly injured when her apartment manager set off a “bug bomb,” which
caused her injuries.<br />
The firm represented a local man who was injured at a hardware store
when a clerk knocked several boards onto him. The matter settled on the
eve of trial to the client’s satisfaction.</div>

In 2002, <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/tony-buzbee/">Tony Buzbee</a> was named one of the Top Five
“Go To” Lawyers in Plaintiff’s <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/commercial-litigation/">Commercial Litigation, in the State of Texas</a>. Since that time, The Buzbee Law Firm has been involved in
hundreds of commercial disputes. <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">The Buzbee Law Firm</a> has a wealth of
experience in commercial litigation matters, including breach of
contract, fraud, conversion, and interference with contract. For
potential new cases, contact us via email at tbuzbee@txattorneys.com or
call the office toll-free at 1-800-992-5393. When your business is in a
lawsuit, as plaintiff or defendant, time is crucial. A lawsuit saps
time, energy, and money. Every month that goes by means more distraction
to your employees. And, if you are paying your lawyers by the hour,
every month also brings a seemingly larger bill, with new people billing
(many of whom have never tried a case), increasing rates and more
costs. And you are no closer to conclusion. Or, if your business has a
claim, you may find that no traditional firm will handle the case except
on an hourly basis, at rates that you simply can’t afford. At the same
time, those attorneys might have little actual trial experience. At the
<a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/">Buzbee Law Firm</a>, we represent clients on a contingency basis and we try
cases. We like to take the risk of litigation with our clients. And, and
we are only paid when the case is over. That means we spend every
minute with the same goal as you—conclude the case at the best possible
result in the shortest time and most efficient way possible. Our lawyers
have significant big firm commercial litigation experience and
extensive trial experience. Tony Buzbee started his career at one of the
best litigation boutiques in the entire country. If you are interested
in putting that experience to work for you, give us a call.<br />

There are thousands of nameless, faceless attorneys who fill the top
floors of many of the office buildings in every major city in the United
States — there is no one like <a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/tony-buzbee/">Tony Buzbee</a>. Buzbee is a leader in his
field and at the top of his profession.<br />
Indeed, in the Sixth edition (2013) of <em>Benchmark</em> <em>Litigation</em>,
the definitive guide to America’s leading litigation firms and
attorneys, Tony Buzbee was named as litigation star for plaintiff’s
litigation in Texas and The Buzbee Law Firm was named as one of
five “Highly Recommended” firms. (<a href="http://www.txattorneys.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Benchmark-Litigation-2012.pdf">Link to the article can be found here</a>).<br />
The New York Times Magazine described Buzbee as: “<em>One of the most successful trial lawyers in the country.</em>”<br />
Texas Monthly said of Buzbee: “<em>Buzbee has made his name going after corporations, and he usually wins big.</em>”<br />
The New York Times stated it best when it described Buzbee like this: “<em>Mr. Buzbee is a big, mean, ambitious, tenacious, fire-breathing Texas trial lawyer. Really big. Poster boy big.</em>”<br />
The results speak for themselves:<br />
After more than thirty depositions, and three years, Buzbee went to
trial against a General Contractor and Subcontractor who negligently
started a fire resulting in more than $12 million in damages to a condo
project. After two days of trial, the General Contractor settled on
favorable terms. Buzbee kept going and obtained a significant verdict
against the Subcontractor and a finding of “no liability” against his
clients.<br />
Retained by famed recording artist and businessman Jimmy Buffet to
protect various trade marks and intellectual property, Buzbee not only
stopped the infringing company in its tracks, but through his efforts,
had the owner temporarily jailed. The case settled on extremely
favorable terms shortly thereafter.<br />
Offered only $100,000 to settle a hotly disputed, high profile toxic
release case on the day of trial, Buzbee rejected and obtained a
record-setting verdict. The case, which was reported to be one of the
largest of the year in the country, and the largest ever against BP,
settled confidentially thereafter.<br />
Hired to <em>defend</em> a business client in a contempt hearing,
whereby the Plaintiff in the case was trying to force Buzbee’s client to
turn over customer lists and other proprietary information, Buzbee
stepped in. After a two-hour hearing, the Federal Judge ordered the <em>Plaintiff</em>
to deposit a significant sum into the registry of the Court, and set a
trial date to determine whether Buzbee’s client was the owner of those
funds: exactly what Buzbee’s client had been trying to accomplish in
over two years of litigation.<br />
Retained to attempt to vacate a two-year injunction preventing the
development of valuable property near protected wetlands, Buzbee
convinced the Court–from the bench–to lift the injunction. The client
was thus able to save his substantial investment, while paying Buzbee in
kind with property for his valuable work.<br />
<div align="justify" style="padding: 10px 0px;">
Hired on a
Thursday to try a commercial dispute on the next Monday, Buzbee went to
work. After a four-day trial, the jury returned a substantial
verdict, over twice Buzbee’s client’s settlement demand. The case
settled shortly after the jury verdict.</div>
Fourteen product liability cases in a row, raising the exact same
issue, had been won by Ford Motor Company across the United States–After
a two and a half week trial, Buzbee obtained a substantial jury
verdict for his clients. The case settled confidentially thereafter.<br />
Hired by the Port of Galveston on a breach of contract case, after
receiving a meager offer of settlement of only $280,000–Buzbee went to
work; the case settled within nine months for a significant amount.<br />
Seeking answers surrounding the death of her husband, and turned down
by five other law firms–Buzbee took the case for a widow whose husband
was killed on an offshore drilling rig off the Coast of Saudi Arabia,
and obtained a significant verdict. The case settled confidentially
thereafter.<br />
Seeking to change how business was done offshore Buzbee took a case
for the family of a young man mysteriously killed due to what the
company described as a “freak accident” on an offshore drilling rig. The
case resulted in a multimillion dollar, confidential settlement and
changed the way business is done offshore.<br />
Tony Buzbee is a former Recon Marine officer. His mettle has been
tested time and again through some of the most demanding training in the
armed services, and due to his involvement in the some of the most
intense Marine operations in various countries. Buzbee didn’t just
survive or endure as a Marine officer, he excelled. In the Marine Corps,
officers are taught to lead from the front, to do more with less, to
work smart, to hit fast and exploit weaknesses and to be creative. Tony
Buzbee, and the firm he has built, use these same principles and
attitudes in the practice of law.<br />
Tony Buzbee is a nationwide figure, who is sought out in every kind
of case, all over the country. He believes in the wisdom of juries. He
deeply respects the practice of law and the system as a whole. Tony
Buzbee has earned the luxury of selecting the cases upon which he
personally chooses to work.<br />
Tony Buzbee is the son of a butcher and high school cafeteria worker.
After earning a ROTC scholarship, Buzbee attended Texas A&M
University. While there, he served as a Battalion Commander in the Corps
of Cadets. Upon graduation, Buzbee was named a Distinguished Naval
Graduate, Distinguished Student, and was recognized as the Outstanding
NROTC Senior in the Corps of Cadets, as well as the Outstanding
Commander in the Corps of Cadets. Buzbee now has the honor of having the
<em>Buzbee Leadership Learning Center</em> named after him.<br />
After college, Buzbee entered the United States Marine Corps. In his
initial Marine Corps training, Buzbee was recognized as an Honor
Graduate, receiving the top leadership score out of more than 200 other
Marine Lieutenants. Buzbee then continued his service as a Marine Corps
infantry officer, serving in the Persian Gulf and Somalian conflicts,
where he commanded various Marine SOC (special operation capable)
infantry units. After rigorous physical and mental screening, Buzbee was
selected by the Marines to become a Recon officer, commanding the elite
Recon Company of the historic First Marine Regiment. While serving as a
Recon officer, Buzbee received various awards, including top leadership
awards from the rigorous Navy Dive School and the daunting Amphibious
Reconnaissance Course. Ultimately, Buzbee earned the rank of Captain,
and for his Marine Corps service was awarded the prestigious Navy
Commendation Medal.<br />
After leaving the Marine Corps, Buzbee entered law school at the
University of Houston Law Center. While there, Buzbee was the Managing
Editor of the Houston Law Review, was elected Class Captain by his
peers, and was also a member of the Order of the Coif, Order of the
Barristers, and Order of the Barons. Buzbee was also state and regional
mock trial champion and was voted best advocate in every competition in
which he competed. Buzbee ultimately graduated <em>Summa Cum Laude</em>, second in his class.<br />
After graduation, Buzbee was selected to serve as a briefing attorney
for a federal district judge in the Southern District of Texas,
Galveston Division. Upon completing that assignment, he was hired by one
of the most prestigious litigation boutiques in the country. He then
founded his own firm.<br />
Aside from his legal practice, Buzbee is heavily involved in his
community as a property developer, working to revitalize historic
downtown Friendswood. Buzbee is also a business owner, responsible for
various well-known retail endeavors, commercial buildings, and hotels.
Buzbee also serves on the Board of Directors of Hometown Bank, the Board
of Directors for The Jesse Tree (a nonprofit organization that assists
the homeless and those in need in Galveston and Brazoria counties),
serves on the Board of the Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of
America, and has served on the Board of Visitors of Texas A&M
Galveston. Buzbee is also a member of the Board of Regents of Texas
A&M University.<br />
In 2002, Buzbee was recognized by his peers in the <em>Texas Lawyer</em>,
as one of the Top 5 “Go To” Lawyers for Commercial Litigation in the
State of Texas. Buzbee was the youngest attorney on the list, in any
category. Tony Buzbee has been repeatedly recognized as a Texas “Super
Lawyer” by Thomson Reuters. Buzbee has been profiled in several books,
and has appeared on the cover of the <em>New York Times Magazine</em>.<br />
Tony Buzbee is frequently sought out for his courtroom skill and
oratory talent. Buzbee is also a frequent commentator on national news
programs. Due to his skill set, he has been retained to help a U.S
Senate candidate prepare himself for a series of televised debates, and
even was called upon to assist a presidential candidate in multiple,
nationally televised presidential debates.<br />
Tony Buzbee became the trial lawyer he is today by applying the
skills he learned in the Marines—comprehensive preparation and ruthless
